About Me

I am a lot of things.. I wear many hats. I am a Dad to the greatest kid in the world, Micah. I am a husband to the greatest woman in the world, Ann. I am a computer geek, a ham radio operator, a musician and (in case you haven’t read the site yet) i’m a Christian. I’m going to steal my “About me” format from my good friend Wayne

Family

As I mentioned earlier, I am married to a wonderful beautiful woman named Ann. We have 2 children, Caed and Micah. Caed went to be with the Lord in 2006. We never really knew him, but he’ll always be in our hearts. We love both our children with a love that can’t be explained, except that it has to be a subset of the love God has for us. We are blessed beyond measure!

Professionally

I work for a defense contractor as an Information Technology Manager. I have a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Alabama in Communications and a minor in Computer Information Systems. I have been a broadcast engineer, a network administrator, and a theatre tech (that’s live productions.. not screens). I would love to be back in theatre, but somehow i’ve got to pay the bills.

Spiritually

I’m crazy. I was raised in the United Methodist Church, but not the robe and candles kind… the more country variety that picked a organization because it seemed like a good idea at the time. I have attended several different kinds of churches in the past but I really don’t like to label myself as anything except Christian. I think the Bible does a pretty good job of doing things without all the human “stuff” that goes with belonging to a denomination. I currently attend a Southern Baptist church, but I didn’t realize that until I was already involved there. They seem to stay out of the politics of that sort of thing, and that suits me fine

That being said, I have been through the “church” ringer several times. Spent some time completely out of the faith, though at the time I wouldn’t have admitted it, and I have seen myself come back into really trying to pursue God’s plan for my life. It is a journey, to be sure, but I know that God is guiding me as I go!

By Nature

I am sarcastic. I love dry humor, but sometimes there’s just nothing better than good ol’ slapstick comedy. I am a geek of the highest order. I am a repository of useless information in hopes that some day it will be relevant.

I believe that God has a plan. I don’t know what that plan is, mind you, but I know he’s got one. I also believe that sometimes, we aren’t supposed to know why we are doing things, and that drives me nuts. I hate doing things without a reason, but for God I do my best with the knowledge that he values me and that I can show my love for him through obedience.

I LOVE FOOD! But alas, my love affair with all things unhealthy has ended. Sure, I still slip in a doughnut every once in a while, but to date (May 2007) i’ve lost 26 pounds. I’m trying to get back to my weight the day I graduated High School.. just under 200 pounds. Only 44 more pounds to go!

Movies - Unlike my friend who i stole this format from, I can name my top 5 favorite movies, just not in any particular order:

1) Blazing Saddles

2) Young Frankenstien

3) Blues Brothers

4) A Mighty Wind

5) Spinal Tap

What’s with the site title?

Ok, the site title “Inside the Shack” refers to a couple of things.. First of all, the URL is plunkettshack.com. Also, “shack” is a term describing the location of a ham radio station in a house or outbuilding. It doesn’t matter that you spent $2m on a building for your ham radio equipment.. it’s a shack.

Randomness Unleashed comes from the fact that I have a hard time staying on one mental track at a time. (HEY LOOK A DUCK!) This makes it interesting to talk to me and probably even more interesting to read my blog. “Interesting” here is used very liberally.
