Yep, it is amazing how productive I can be when there aren’t any games on that interest me (Well, Texas Tech v OU is an exception)

I got up at 5 this morning. Today is the opening day of deer season, so I was in my tree stand just after 6am. About 6:45 I saw some movement in the field, and drew up my gun to get ready for ol’ Buck Nelson to walk out in front of me. No such luck. Coyotes.

There is an open season on predators in Alabama, so I drew down on two of them and fired off a couple of rounds. I hit one, missed the other but I didn’t find either one when I got down to go look. A combination of the fact that A) there are coyotes in my field and B) I just made a LOT of noise and scent, there was virtually no chance that a deer would walk out this morning. I stayed in my tree stand until almost 9am before the reality that it was 19 degrees outside overcame my desire to kill the big one.
Ok, so that part of my day wasn’t all that productive.

After eating some breakfast at Mom and Dad’s, I came home and crawled under the house to run a new cable for my HF Radio (ham radio stuff). Ever since this guy came to my church to talk about how he was almost electrocuted underneath a house, getting under there has been really nerve racking for me. Sure, he saw Jesus, but I’m just not there yet ok?

Either way, I got that done and was inside soldering a connector on the cable when my brother called and invited us to go eat. I put the project on hold and went to meet them for a late lunch/early supper. We came home and gave the dog a bath (he’s a little sickly and despite my policy of no animals in the house, he really doesn’t need to be outside with it this cold.) I played with my radio stuff some more and watched Micah jump around like a crazy person for about 3 hours because the dog is in the house.

Now, I’m sitting here watching the end of the Texas Tech v OU game, and even though nothing I did today is of any real consequence, I feel like I have gotten a lot done because I managed to do one thing: relax and not worry about work.

One day at a time.

According to this website an several others, it appears that Raycom will be producing their SEC football games in HD this season!

That means that even the early games will be HD, and I won’t have to mumble and gripe about the lousy picture quality for 3 or so hours every Saturday. I think this means that all my football viewing should be HD this season!

WOOHOO!!!!

The first person I knew who started discussing football team uniforms was Grant. Then, Rick and Bubba started talking about them. I walked into a conversation at church a couple of weeks back about uniforms and finally had to call foul.

People… just because football players are wearing it, doesn’t make it cool for guys to discuss uniforms. It just isn’t okay. Anything more than a passing mention of “oh I see they are wearing their away jersey at a home game” is strictly off limits for men. Has metro invaded our manhood so much that we can’t even watch a football game without critiquing someone’s outfit? What’s next? “Those shoes just do NOT match that helmet… I mean what are they thinking? Don’t they know it’s after labor day?”

So here is my plea… stop with the Uni talk. Leave that to the women…

Or maybe I could just be a millionaire and start a sports fashion magazine…

That’s what the headlines tomorrow should read.
LSU is a great football team. They have some great talent and in all fairness they are a better football team than Alabama this year. Tonight however, they did not play that way. They played like thugs. It takes a lot to get an unsportsman-like conduct call, so to get two in a game is indicative of a problem. LSU displayed no discipline or focus. They did not deserve to win this game, and they would not have if the replay official hadn’t have given them the upper hand on several plays that were clearly not “indisputable”.

I’m not bitter, I just think that Alabama’s players played above their talent and depth in order to compete with LSU, and were it not for replay officials changing the game this could have gone the other way.

I disagree with the bloggers over at Roll Bama, Roll. As much as I want to see an SEC team get into the National Championship game, I don’t want a team that’s going to play like LSU did tonight to represent the SEC. If the go to the National Championship game, they had better get some focus and discipline or they will fall against any team (assuming they have fair officials).
