Ann and I were out in the back yard working on our short game while Micah watched and played with the dogs, but he seemed very interested in what we were doing. We had to run to Wal-Mart for some things and picked up one of those $5 plastic golf sets for him. I expected him to run around with it like a sword or use it like a drum stick, but the first thing he did was set the golf ball down and get in a pretty good stance for a 1 year old.

Of course, I missed that particular moment with the camera. I managed to get this shot a few minutes later. He actually made good contact with the ball.

I know I am biased, but I think he’s the smartest little boy ever!

Well, I took a half day and mowed my grass today. I was almost positive that, had I run out of gas, a search party would have to be sent out with machettes and slingblades to find me. I had managed to really let the yard get out of hand.
I made the trip home early to get that done for two reasons:

  1. It’s likely to rain tonight and lets face it, if this got anymore out of control I might as well have waited and let my dad bail it for hay.
  2. Tomorrow, Ann and I are playing in a golf tournament and i wouldn’t have time even if it wasn’t too wet to mow.

So tomorrow is pretty full. Ann is going to the Bloomin Festival in Cullman early tomorrow and then we’re off to the golf tourney. It’s for a good cause, Trinity Baptist Church missions. Plus, we get to play with Josh and my boss/friend Mike. It’s Ann’s first golf tournament, and she’s a little nervous but I think she’ll do fine. Luckily for all of us, this is best ball format so only one of the 4 of us has to have a good stroke at a time. That reminds me of a video of Robin Williams talking about golf. It’s not appropriate for younger viewers, but if you can overlook the unneccesary and unending use of the “F Bomb”, it’s pretty funny.

Anyway. Sunday is going to be great. Of course, church is going to be good. Then it’s on to Mom’s house for our April b-day lunch. Getting together with my family is usually great, thankfully!

Should be a full weekend, but I think it will be fun!

Today my boss and I went to play golf at a course that neither of us have ever played. As usual there were surprises, but thankfully this time it worked out pretty nice.

We got to the first tee box to find that we were being paired with another pair, randomly. Well, that’s  not really great because i’m a horrid golfer and I don’t want to hit the links with some hardcore retired guys who play 108 holes a week. When the other guys showed up I knew i’d be okay. One guy I spotted right away as a musician. Two earrings, fluffed hair with a visor and a goatee. Got to be a musician… just had that vibe. The other guy I didn’t get a vibe on, but he didn’t seem the hardcore type.

Turns out I was right. The one guy was Todd, the drummer from a hot new band called Heartland. The other guy was really that.. just a guy who Todd worked with before he started pursuing his dream of being a full time musician. It was an enjoyable time, I played pretty well after about hole 5 or 6. The first few holes were just embarrasing. I started to just drive the cart back to the pro shop, get some cold beer and drive the cart around for the boss. Thankfully I got my drive dialed in and most of the time after that I at least had  a good drive, even if my short game is still embarrasing.

Overall, a pretty good day.
