I got in the car yesterday morning, turned the key and as the radio came alive a voice that, at least to me, signals the beginning of football season comes blaring out of the speakers… Eli Gold. Just listening to that guy gets me fired up. I can remember as a small child sitting at the barber shop on a Saturday morning listening to the Alabama Football pre-game show. Eli’s distinctive voice had a way of cutting through the chatter of BS that regularly permeates a southern town’s barber shop on a Saturday morning.
To me, college football season commenced on Monday morning. I can almost hear him screaming “TOUCHDOWN ALABAMA!”, and I hope I can do more than “almost” hear that several times this season.
I’m ready to see how the new coach really does. I’m not one of those guys who says “If he doesn’t beat Auburn this year it’s over” as an expression of my own feelings, but I recognize that if Alabama doesn’t win this year it will be an uphill battle for him with some of the other fans.
Looked on Ebay last night for tickets. Wow, people pay a lot of money to see a college football game.
Now, the leaves just need to change and there needs to be just a nip of cold in the air at sunset. That will make it official… football has arrived.
